Meet The Team

Helen

Owner + Coach

A woman with long brown hair smiles in a gym, standing in front of black weightlifting equipment with weights on racks.

Hiii! My name is Helen Newell, and I am the founder of The Venus Club.

Originally from a small town in Maine, I fell in love with fitness as a teenager as a way to help me heal through mental health struggles. A few years later I found powerlifting, which helped me truly discover how powerful being strong can feel. I have always loved teaching, and discovered my passion for coaching at 19.

Fast forward to present day and I have been coaching for over 7 years. As a coach, my life's passion is helping people build strength and confidence, finding a balance that allows them to live life fully. Life is incredibly dynamic and my goal is to help you navigate it through strength and functionality. My specialties are in barbell training and women's health (including pre & post natal and menopause).

After moving to Nashville in 2024 and falling in love with the community and people here, the stars aligned on creating my dream space. I created The Venus Club to be a space held together by its community, all-inclusive, built to support and empower through strength, and where you can walk in and feel at home. I would absolutely love for you to come to The Venus Club and see it for yourself!

Mira

Coach

A woman with long brown hair wearing a beige hoodie and black shorts standing next to a silver barbell weight plate in a gym.

Hey, I’m Mira Hayes!

My strength training journey began in 2020 after moving to Portland, Oregon from my home city of Philadelphia. I began experiencing debilitating back pain and I realized I needed to make a huge change. I signed up for a 12 week at-home workout + nutrition program and to my surprise, I completely fell in love with strength training. Not only did my back pain go away, every other aspect of my life improved in ways I didn’t even think were possible. My confidence soared, my body moved better than it ever had, and I began to embody the person I always wanted to be.

I knew I had to share this passion with others, which led to getting my certification. Since then, I have worked with clients of all ages and fitness levels but specifically have loved working with women and queer folks. My goal is always to make my clients feel safe, heard, respected and empowered. Fitness is for everyone and I’m honored to join The Venus Club in creating a new wave of inclusive fitness here in Nashville.

Kyndra

Coach

Hey y’all! My name is Kyndra Rush!

My health and fitness journey started when I was in college. I have struggled with my weight ever since I was a child and it followed me into my early adult years. After going away to school and implementing a lot more movement into my daily routine, I found myself experiencing the opposite of the freshman fifteen– I lost a significant amount of weight! During that transitional stage in my life, I found I had more energy, endurance and I had the desire to be more active.

Exercising consistently and finding different ways to move my body made me feel great not only physically but mentally!! I wanted to share that knowledge with whoever wanted to receive it, which led me to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology from The Ohio University in 2018. Ever since then, my professional career has taken many different avenues to figure out what felt most like me. And while I was taking time to figure out what made the most sense to pursue full time, one thing that always stayed consistent was my love of strength training. That realization motivated me to receive my Personal Training certification and turn what I thought was just a hobby into a career! I want women to feel as empowered and confident in the gym as I do, and I want to be involved in a community that facilitates that. I think The Venus Club is the perfect place to build that community and I’m excited to be a part of it and grow with this team!!!

Helen has been an incredible personal trainer, guiding me through a transformative fitness journey. From the moment I started training with her, I knew I had found someone truly special. Helen not only helped me discover my passion for powerlifting but also became a pillar of support through every phase of my journey. One of Helen's standout qualities is her ability to listen. Over the past four years, she has attentively listened to my struggles, aspirations, and goals, crafting a customized training program that not only aligns with my physical goals but also nurtures my emotional and mental well-being through sustainable lifestyle recommendations. Her flexibility in adapting the program to my changing needs and circumstances has been what I needed to stay consistent and motivated. I wholeheartedly recommend Helen to anyone who’s looking to improve their life through fitness and self empowerment!

I’ve been working with Helen for about 5 months. In my time with her I’ve made at least three times the progress I made with my prior trainer with whom I spent about 8 months. She is a diligent listener and truly cares about all aspects of your health journey. She encourages you to listen to your body’s needs, to try your hardest and push yourself, and to challenge your own mindset about exercises you don’t think you can do. She’s taught me how to work through the mental roadblocks I face. Most importantly, she’s taught me that I’m a really strong person! I didn’t know I could do all the things she’s shown me I can! I’m so excited for my future health and wellness journey because I know she will keep encouraging and guiding me. She really has a huge heart and puts everything she has into carefully crafting your unique fitness program. She also makes herself available to you for questions anytime, and she’s very responsive when you do message her. And, she’s super fun to be around. I highly recommend you give training with her a try! I promise you’ll be glad you did!

The Venus Club has been a game changer for me. I’ve been going since around the time Helen opened, and it has always felt so welcoming, approachable, and supportive.

I had never done any serious strength training, and I now feel stronger than ever. I love that I can go at my own pace while still feeling challenged. Group fitness has never really stuck for me, but this small class setting has. The workouts and habits I’ve gained have been invaluable.

I’d recommend the Venus Club to anyone who wants to get stronger, make a change, or just doesn’t know where to start.

Absolutely love this place! The classes are upbeat, challenging, and so much fun. It caters seamlessly to all fitness levels and fosters a genuinely welcoming community. Helen is fantastic about keeping everyone safe and challenged, always offering smart modifications for any injuries or individual needs. Highly recommend to anyone looking to build strength in a supportive environment.

I was immediately drawn to The Venus Club because it’s literally a woman (Helen!) following her dream of opening her own gym, and she’s built a space that is genuinely welcoming to women and the LGBTQ+ community. It’s small and boutique, which I love because it never feels overwhelming or crowded. Helen, the owner, got back to me right away when I reached out, and the week of free classes meant I could jump in immediately with zero risk to my wallet or my intimidation level 😂
I love working with my trainer Mira, and being able to mix and match personal training days with group strength classes has been such a great setup for me. There’s a real community feel, but it’s also introvert-friendly. People are friendly without being in your face or making you feel like you’ve walked into a fitness cult. There are people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels, which made me feel comfortable immediately. I can just show up, feel safe, and focus on crushing my workout. And now we’re adding things like happy hours and little gym events, which I’m very much here for. Also there’s a gym dog named Leo. Obviously this is a five-star establishment. 🐶

I can’t recommend Helen enough. I started training with her before pregnancy, and she safely and confidently trained me twice a week all the way until I was about 8 months pregnant. She always adapted workouts to how I was feeling physically while still helping me stay strong, active, and confident throughout pregnancy.

Now postpartum, she’s continued to support me through recovery and rebuilding strength in a way that feels realistic, encouraging, and sustainable. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, motivating, and truly cares about her clients as people, not just fitness goals.

If you’re looking for a trainer who understands both strength training and the changes that come with pregnancy and postpartum, she is absolutely amazing.

I worked with Helen as my personal trainer at another gym and can vouche for her professionalism, training style and expertise. I know she primarily works with those who identify as female hit she was also a great trainer for me a cis dude. She's so non judgemental and never makes you feel bad about your choices but rather focuses on empowering you (I was lifting way more than I expected to very early on which helped to make the process feel doable). I cannot recommend working with her enough but especially so for those who identify as female as well as members of the LGBTQIA community.

Helen is absolutely amazing - she introduced me to weights, which I found very intimidating before I met her. I made huge progress and I saw the best results after Helen classes - I gained strength and confidence, improved my technique, shaped my body and I simply felt better - both physically and mentally. Helen listens, understands and adjusts where needed, and creates an open, honest and safe environment. I’m very grateful I had an opportunity to work with Helen and she will be missed in London!!

Working with Helen for the past four years has been transformative for my fitness journey. She has witnessed firsthand my evolution from struggling with basic movements like squats and deadlifts to confidently navigating the gym floor. Previously plagued by impostor syndrome in this environment, I now find solace and safety within these walls. Under Helen's guidance, I've learned to assert my presence, push my limits, and cultivate self-awareness. Training extends far beyond completing a 45-minute session; it's about undergoing a holistic 360-degree transformation.

Helen’s a phenomenal female personal trainer who possesses an exceptional blend of brilliance, kindness, and an ability to boost confidence through her energy. Helen’s PUMP classes fostered an environment where individuals felt energised, empowered and capable. With her expertise and supportive approach, she’s a standout in the fitness world, providing an uplifting and impactful training experience for all. I’ve never seen goodbye’s like it.

  • Shreya

Helen is the best personal trainer I have had. Her approach to being strong and lifting heavy is healthy and sustainable for me. She is very approachable and pushes me to work at my best capacity. It’s so much fun to workout with her :)

Conveniently located in east Nashville. They listen to your goals and keep you accountable. They help you with form and encourage you to use heavier weights! If you’re sitting all day for work and looking to have a healthier lifestyle, start here. Bonus they have a handsome pup, Leo, for emotional support!

  • Madison

Highly recommend Helen at the Venus Club! She has been amazing throughout both pregnancy and postpartum, always making me feel strong, supported, and confident. I’m so grateful for her encouragement and knowledge during every stage!

  • Caitlin

Highly recommend! I started seeing Helen while I was pregnant, and she supported me through all 9 months and again postpartum. She customized my training plan for each phase of pregnancy and recovery, focusing on helping me build and maintain strength while still working toward my personal goals.

I was able to hit PRs and build muscle before the birth of my son, and my postpartum recovery was significantly easier because of the foundation we built together. She’s also been incredibly helpful in guiding me back into the gym after having my baby.
